Alex Cesare Elia

Encouraged by his father, an amateur musician, Alex Elia grows-up and approaches music in Aosta Valley, in his native town wind band. At the age of 17 he starts playing professionally in different local orchestras and ensembles. He then achieves with honors, under the guidance of  Davide Sanson, the Bachelor and Master degrees in trumpet at the "Conservatoire de la Valleé d'Aoste". Holder of a full scholarship, he attended the "Buchmann-Metha School of Music" at the University of Tel-Aviv. Here he is among the best students in the annual year-end competition.

 

In the two-year period 2012-2014 he is part of Teatro alla Scala Academy Orchestra, with which he participates in opera and ballet productions within the season of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan and in symphonic productions in Italy and abroad with  world-famous conductors and soloists.

 

During summer 2014, he is member of the Schleswig-Holstein Festival orchestra, one of the world leading youth orchestras.

 

He then collaborates with the Teatro alla Scala, the Orchestra of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia the Teatro Massimo of Palermo, the Teatro Regio of Turin, the Petruzzelli Theater of Bari, the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano, the Regional Orchestra of Tuscany, the "Carlo Felice" Theater of Genoa, the Verdi Orchestra of Milan, the Sicilian Symphonic Orchestra, the Regional Orchestra of Tuscany, the "Arturo Toscanini" Philharmonic Orchestra of Parma and several others .

 

From January to July 2015 he is principal trumpet of the Jalisco Philarmonic Orchestra in Guadalajara, Mexico.

 

For several years he collaborates in the same role with the "Antonio Vivaldi" Orchestra and long-time friend conductor Lorenzo Passerini. Deeply involved in the project, he plays several times as a soloist (Brandenburg, Johan Stamitz, Vivaldi, Battistoni...) and helps the organization in developing new ideas and projects. He is featured in the orchestra first recording LP, where he plays "Post Scriptum" by composer in residence Piergiorgio Ratti.

 

He is a member, together with Lorenzo Passerini (trombone) and Marco Cadario (organ), of  the Trio all'Opera, a project to perform opera repertoire instrumentally on the italian 19th century "operatic" organ.

 

As a dedicatary, he premiered "Personal" by Davide Sanson, for trumpet and wind band. In close collaboration with him, he also premiered his arrangement for trumpet and chamber orchestra of Debussy's Suite Bergamasque.

 

In 2017 he is trumpet soloist in the piece "Carme" for choir and ensemble by Academy Award winner Nicola Piovani (choir and musicians of the orchestra of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia) in a concert in the cavea de Parco della Musica in Rome.

 

Awarded in several national solo competitions, it stands out in the prestigious "Aeolus International Competion for Winds Instruments", Dusseldorf (2013) and in the "25th International City of Porcia Competition" (2014).

 

Currently, he is the principal trumpet of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.
